Busy As A Bee

Hi everyone, I have been so busy finishing up a few other projects,so now back to my Civil War Quilts. I am finally getting the hang of stitching these blocks together now that I have done so many blocks. I have a pile of precut blocks just waiting on my fingers to start and finish another block. I like to put my TV on the history channel and find something on the Civil War as I stitch. Or I head off to my stash of movies and hunt something down to get into my DVD player. I am enjoy the process and the bonus is seeing each block finished and piled into my stacks of blocks. See you next time and hope you enjoy my journey.

Travel

Going down the road today so I will take a block or two to stitch up while we do a day trip. Simple square patterns are at the top of my stack of Civil War blocks so hopefully I will get one finished if not two. Have a great Saturday everyone, and happy sewing ~

My Newest Civil War Reproduction Fabrics

Here are some of my new fabrics for my 3 Civil War quilts. So I am happy with my progress of these quilts. The journey continues as I read the 121 stories about the Civil War in this quilting book.

Silly Silly Silly Me

I guess my readers think I am crazy but I guess I was so excited to start my 3 Dear Jane quilts I pulled the wrong book off my shelf. I am thinking Civil War and the Dear Jane so they got mushed together. Well then I guess I am ahead of the game on these 3 quilts from this book. Alas there sits on a table my Dear Jane book with not one block made. Ha I am on a journey alright ,but on a different road and not with Dear Jane. So now to continue these Civil War quilts from Rosemary's book. So the happy thoughts about my mix-up is I get to go fabric hunting again for new fabric's before I start my 3 Dear Jane quilts. Back to the thought process of what fabric I will use for the background of these quilts. Oh JOY !!!!!!

Sewing My Blocks

As I sew my blocks I will post the finished blocks beside the blocks I first posted. I am try to keep the precut and finished blocks together. It seems that my blocks are growing in the book like rabbits, but I have to remind myself,I am making 3 blocks of each pattern for my 3 quilts. I already see those patterns are going to drive me nuts. I may have to take a break for a cup of hot tea and chocolate cookie ~

Sugar Cane

Meeting General Lee

Abomination Of Desolation

Rose fabric will come out for a more dark unhappy fabric~

Splendid Victory

Soldier's Box

The Noble Third

Parlor Activities

Yankee Papers

Church

Ok now with more consideration the Old Abe fabric is now going into a different block called Old Abe Lincoln . I have other plans for the Church block. I find I will be tweaking a lot of blocks as I start to sew them together~

Southern Flags And Patriotism

Death Penalty

Now this pre block looks crazy but once I get it sewn together it will be perfect~ The triangles are under the strips~

Foragers

Picket Lines

e Placing my pieces of blocks together are all rough around the edges but in my scheme of quilting it works for me~

Ready To Stitch-Baptism - Merchantable Goods - Sad And Lonely Days

ok these blocks I will stitch all of them tonight, but that last one is going to be fighting me the whole way. It may take the whole day tomorrow to do that block. I have to get two more blocks like this staged and ready to stitch on Wednesday and Thursday. Those pieces I have already cut out so that is good.

Civil War Reproduction Fabrics

Some of my fabrics for my Civil War Quilts. Now I have no idea how far I will get in my blocks but I want to make my quilts a bit different than Jane. I figure her quilt is one unique quilt that was ever made. Imagine the time of year she quilted her quilt. What was going on with America at that time and how people felt. WOW amazing is all I can say. So for me to honor her ,I will go as far as I can. In doing so I will travel my own road and journey in making my blocks. Oh yes stitched by hand. So far I have had to make a few blocks over, but that is ok because the rejects I am making a tiny doll bed quilt for a tiny bed. I see that as a BONUS ding ding ding~ I am for sure going to have to buy more fabrics. I do not have enough if I use each fabric one time, which I intend to do. THE HUNT IS ON!

Four blocks - Baptism - Selling The Livestock

The first of my 3 quilts. I am making a red, cream blue combination. Gold & brown combination with splashes of red. A multi color fabrics but with more green. I do not think at this point I will make bed size quilts we will see how I feel as I go along making my blocks :) I will not be adding any black to these quilt tops as during the Civil War black fabrics that were used in quilts were only made of silks and wool. To make my quilts more somber I will make some blocks using a darker toned colors. Ok now back to work as I am hand stitching all the block tops together. Ciao for now ,I shall post more photos later this week~
